the Turbo Clutch is extremely sensitive and makes the Actros Titan very easy to manoeuvre
HEAVY haulage is being made that bit easier thanks to Mercedes-Benz’ new Actros Titan.
Haulage company, Chappell’s, is the first in the UK to buy an 8x4 Actros 4160S and you can see it hard at work in the photo (right).
Chappell’s is now using it to transport plant and machinery for its customers in the construction and demolition industries.
Chappell’s bought the Actros Titan from its neighbouring dealer Pentagon Commercials.
The 8x4 Actros 4160S Titan is powered by a 600hp, 16-litre V8, which drives through a 16-speed Mercedes PowerShift automated gearbox. But the best part is Voith’s new Turbo Clutch – which delivers a huge 3,000Nm of torque – and gives finer clutch control when pulling away and during low-speed manoeuvring with a mega heavy load on the back.
The Director of Chappell’s, Mark Harris, says the PowerShift transmission combined with the Turbo Clutch is superb, adding , “It gives us the best of both worlds. When pulling away and working at low speeds the Turbo Clutch is extremely sensitive and makes the truck very easy to manoeuvre.”
“And once you’re up and running the automated Mercedes PowerShift is a lot smoother than a manual, while also leaving the driver free to concentrate on the road rather than worrying about which gear he’s in.”
Chappell’s wanted a factory-built eight-wheeler rather than an aftermarket conversion, and Pentagon Commercials came up with a package that combined the right product, at the right price, and with the right back-up.
